"why couldnt i have been named ashley"

1) How does the writer use the hook (“three blonde heads”) to grab the reader and set the tone for the essay?
The writer uses it to make a point that the name Ashley is a popular name, a lot of people have that name.

2) Re-read the paragraph starting “The first time I actually became aware…” Give specific details.

3) Why does the writer use the example of the pencils? What is she trying to show?

She uses the example of the pencils because she had always wanted a pencil with her name carved into the side. She is trying to show that her name is so uncommon that they don't have pencils with her name carved in the side.

4) How does the writer turn it around? What anecdotes and information does she give to show that she has regained her pride for her name?
She turns it around by her cousin telling her what her name means. Her cousin tells her that her name means, 'Immaculeta means 'purity', 'Uzoma means 'the good road', and 'Archilike means 'to rule without force'.

5) What advice would you give the writer to make the essay even better?

I think the essay was fine how it was written
