Our Racist, Sexist Selves

1.Why did the author think the U of Chicago test revealed that he was racist? Is he right?
He thought that it revealed that he was racist because he shot the black people with guns faster than the whites with guns, and it took him longer to holster his gun when it was a white person. No, he is not necessarily right.

2.Do these tests measure “unconscious” racism? Why do you think so?
In a way because you arent really thinking about what is going on so you just do what your first instinct is.

3.Why does the author think that sexism may be harder to fight than racism?
Because experiments have shown that the brain categorizes people by race in less than 100 milliseconds, about 50 milliseconds before determining sex.

4.Paraphrase this quote: "The challenge for women competing in politics or business is less misogyny than unconscious sexism. Americans don’t hate women, but they do frequently stereotype them as warm and friendly, creating a mismatch with the stereotype we hold of leaders as tough and strong."
People think that women cant be leaderes because they arent tough and strong enough, and sometimes you have to be.

5.What is the real problem women face according to the author?
People have an unconcious sexism, they dont mean to think differently of a women it just happens because of past experiences.

DSP Story

My group and I are doing a story about teenagers. In that story there will be the choice of drunk driving, and whether or not he/she should do it. We don't have characters yet, we just have the story line.

Power Quotes

"We look forward to the time when the Power of Love will replace the Love of Power. Then will our world know the blessings of peace."

I agree with this quote, I believe that people just LOVE/WANT power and they don't care about anything else. People seem to only care about how much authority they have over another person or thing. You can't have peace when people are power hungry, because there will always be unpeaceful things going on when people are trying to gain power. If everyone could just get along and be happy with what they have then we wouldn't have so much destruction. If there is a time when people actually care more about love than power, then the world will be peaceful.

Laws of Power

Law 14
Pose as a friend, woek as a spy

I think that this may work, but not all the time. If you try and get too much information at first they might just think that you are messing around and arn't actually their friend (they will find out what you are doing). I'm not quite sure if this is necessarily moral. But if it works then use it!
