Scene 1:

1. What "cursed thoughts" does Banquo have?
Banquo keeps having thoughts about killing the king himself, and he keeps thinking about the Weird Sisters.

2. What lie does Macbeth tell Banquo?
Macbeth tells Banquo that he has not even thought about what the Weird Sisters had said.

3. What is the meaning of Banquo's answer to Macbeth's comment that ends in "it shall make favour for you"?
That Banquo will stay loyal to whoever is king.

4. What causes Macbeth to think he sees a dagger?
Macbeth is going crazy because killing the king is becoming more apparent.

5. At the end of scene 1, a bell rings. What do you think is the significance of this?
I think it is telling Macbeth “it’s time.”

Scene 2:

1. What reason does Lady Macbeth give for not committing the murder herself?
She said that she would have killed the king but he looked too much like her dad.

2. What words about himself does Macbeth believe he hears? (Lines 47-48 & 54-56)
He thinks he hears a voice saying, “Sleep no more!”

3. How did Macbeth mismanage the murder?
Macbeth mismanages the murder by bringing the bloody daggers into their bedroom and by not smearing the blood on the guards.

4. Both Macbeth and his lady comment on the effectiveness of water in cleansing away their involvement in the deed. How do they differ?
Macbeth makes a big deal about it and says, “If I were to watch my hands in the ocean the green will turn to red.” Lady Macbeth acts as if its no big deal.

Scene 3:

1. Why has Macduff come to Macbeth's castle?
Macduff goes to Macbeth’s castle because he had an appointment with Duncan and he had to wake him.

2. What unusual things happened to Macduff and Lennox during the night?
The chimney blows down and they hear some screaming, also there was a strange bird clamoring about.

3. Why does Macbeth say he killed the king's men? What possible reason may he actually have?
Because they think that the guards killed the king. Maybe he didn’t want the guards to say that Macbeth killed the king.

4. Why does Lady Macbeth faint?
To take the attention off of Macbeth when he gets asked why he killed the guards.

5. In lines 159-171, what actions do Malcolm and Donalbain take? What reasons do they give for a hasty escape?
Malcolm runs-away to England, and Donalbain runs-away to Ireland. Because they think that someone is out to kill them next.

Scene 4:

1. In lines 5-25, Ross and the Old Man discuss the strange unnatural events that have occurred. What are they?
A falcon attacks a hawk whose normal prey is mice. Horses are breaking out of their stalls and eating other horses.



2. Who do the public believe are responsible for the murder of King Duncan?
The public thinks that Duncan’s sons bribed the guards to kill their dad, the king.

3. Who has been named king?
Macbeth has been named king.

4. What reason does Macduff imply is his for not attending Macbeth's coronation?
He thinks that Macbeth killed the king. And he resolves to stay at his own castle in Fife.
