Mind Over Muscle

1.Why does Brooks say girls do better in school?
They pay more attention. Some say the education system has been overly feminized and, some say men are imprisoned by their anti-intellectual machismo. Girls are much less likely to become diagnosed with a learning disability.

2.Is he right? Are girls better equipped for the future?
I think guys and girls have the same opportunities, its just that girls show it more.

3.What does Brooks think this means for the future of the US?
Women are more likely to enroll in college and they are more likely to have better applications, so now there are hundreds of schools where the female-male ratio is 60 to 40. On the upside women will be holding more and more leadership jobs. On the negative side, they will have a harder and harder time finding marriageable men with comparable education levels. Girls will

4.What does he mean when he says this: “One thing is for sure: in 30 years the notion that we live in an oppressive patriarchy that discriminates against women will be regarded as a quaint anachronism.”
He means that women are considered just the same as men, maybe even better and the fact that we used to discriminate and not give women many rights.

5.What solutions does Brooks offer? Do you think they will work?
If boys like to read about war and combat, why can't there be books about combat on the curriculum?
Would elementary school boys do better if they spent more time outside the classroom and less time chained to a desk? Or would they thrive more in a rigorous, competitive environment? They might work, but we won't know unless they are tried out.
